How to make ChatGPT, AI Overviews & friends recommend your site without ditching classic SEO

A quick backstory

I recently tumbled down a YouTube rabbit hole and landed on a video titled How to Dominate AI Search Results in 2025 by Ryan Law, in partnership with Surfer. It’s packed with smart takes, real data, and SEO strategies that feel extremely relevant right now—especially if you’re someone trying to future-proof your website.

As someone who specializes in Webflow websites and helps clients improve their SEO and show up in tools like ChatGPT, Bing Copilot, and Google’s AI Overviews, this topic hit right in the sweet spot. So, I pulled the best bits, added my own perspective, and turned it into something you can actually use.

Think of this as a highlight reel with a Webodew twist—strategy-forward, no fluff, and a little bit of fun.

Reality check: AI chat is add-on traffic, not a replacement

If you hang around the SEO space long enough, you’ll hear people saying SEO is dead.

Spoiler: it’s not even close.

AI chat is add‑on traffic, not a replacement

Here’s what the stats tell us:

  • Nearly 80% of people still use Google or Bing to look up general information.
  • Only 14% are reaching for AI tools like ChatGPT daily.
  • Google processes about 13.6 billion searches per day, while ChatGPT fields closer to 40 million.

In short: search engines are still the primary discovery method.

AI tools are more like a second layer of discovery, not a replacement for traditional search.

Gold nuggets from the video

In the video, Ryan outlines how he sees search evolving, and how businesses can show up in AI-generated results. Here are some of the core tips, with a bit of my own commentary mixed in:

EEAT is non-negotiable

If your content doesn’t show Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness, it’s unlikely to get picked up by AI tools. That means real author bios, credible sources, and clear value for the reader.

Keep your crawl doors open

Don’t block GPTBot or Bingbot in your robots.txt. ChatGPT relies on Bing’s index, so if Bing can’t see your content, it’s game over. You can read more about GPTBot access in OpenAI’s official guidance.

Schema is your friend

Use structured data like Organization, Article, and FAQ. This helps tools like Google’s AI Overviews understand and surface your content more accurately. If you’re using Webflow, I wrote a full guide on how to implement schema here.

Own your topic

A single blog post won’t cut it. Build a small cluster of content that covers the topic in depth. When AI tools look for trusted sources, having multiple related pages boosts your odds of getting cited.

The four-step AI visibility playbook

Great content still matters. But content alone won’t get you in AI responses. Here’s the four-part framework I’m using with clients to show up in both traditional and AI-driven search:

1. Write for humans, format for machines

Make your content easy to quote. That means clear headlines, bullets, structured answers, and content that actually answers questions. Think “readable for people, scannable for bots.”

2. Let the right bots in

Check your robots.txt. Make sure you’re not blocking GPTBot or Bingbot. And yes, resubmitting your sitemap in Bing Webmaster Tools is still worth it in 2025. Here’s where to start: Bing’s sitemap submission guide

3. Schema like a pro

Add structured data like Article, FAQ, and Organization to your key content. This is what helps tools like Google’s AI Overviews display your site as a trusted source. If you’re not sure how to do that in Webflow, I’ve got you: Schema in Webflow.

4. Stack authority signals

Backlinks still count. But so do plain-text mentions. And if you want to increase your odds, build out topical clusters. Surfer’s Topical Map tool is great for identifying gaps in your content and helping you build the authority you need.

The copy-paste checklist

Here’s your simple, tactical to-do list. Bookmark it. Revisit it. And tackle one or two items each month to keep your site moving in the right direction.

  • Add EEAT author bios to key service and content pages
  • Add FAQ schema to your top blog posts
  • Review your robots.txt and unblock GPTBot and Bingbot if needed
  • Submit or resubmit your sitemap in Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Use Surfer’s Topical Map to identify missing content clusters
  • Set a monthly check-in to monitor your AI visibility with tools like AI Tracker
  • And hey, when you get your first citation in ChatGPT—treat yourself to a coffee 🎉

Final word

AI isn’t replacing Google. Not yet, and maybe not ever. But it is reshaping how people consume content—and how tools deliver it.

If you make your content helpful, well-structured, and easy for machines to understand, you won’t just survive this shift—you’ll lead it.

This is exactly the kind of work I do at Webodew—helping clients get more visibility through smart Webflow design, solid SEO strategy, and the technical bits that help them show up where it counts (yes, even in AI tools).

FAQs

What is AI SEO?

AI SEO refers to optimizing your website not just for traditional search engines like Google, but also for AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews. It includes things like using schema markup, building topic clusters, and ensuring bots can crawl your site.

Can my site show up in ChatGPT answers?

Yes. If your content is public, crawlable, and considered trustworthy, tools like ChatGPT may pull from it when answering questions. That’s why EEAT and schema are so important.

Do I need to submit my site to ChatGPT?

Not directly. ChatGPT pulls content primarily from Bing’s index, so make sure your site is listed in Bing Webmaster Tools and you’re not blocking GPTBot.

What is schema markup and why does it matter for AI?

Schema is a form of structured data that helps search engines and AI tools better understand your content. It’s especially useful for getting featured in rich results and AI-generated overviews.

Is traditional SEO still important in 2025?

Absolutely. Google search traffic still dominates. AI results are a layer on top—not a replacement. The best strategy is to do both.
