5 Webflow SEO Mistakes to Avoid (As Seen on Flux)

By Mike Miello

Proud moment in my Webflow journey.

I was recently featured on the Flux Academy YouTube channel (shoutout to Ran Segall) to break down five common SEO mistakes I see in Webflow websites.

Whether you’re a designer, marketer, or business owner, this post walks you through what to avoid and how to fix things quickly, so your site doesn’t just look great but actually gets found by the right people.

This video originally appeared on the Flux Academy YouTube channel, where I had the chance to share some practical SEO advice for Webflow users.

Mistake #1: Skipping Your Webflow Project Settings

It’s easy to hit publish and forget your project settings, but this is where a few sneaky SEO issues can hide.

Mistake #1: Skipping Your Webflow Project Settings

Here’s what to fix first:

  • Turn off indexing on the Webflow subdomain. If Google finds both your staging and live site, it can create duplicate content problems.
  • Enable auto-generated sitemaps. This keeps search engines updated every time you add or change a page.
  • Set a global canonical tag. It tells Google which page version is the official one, preventing confusion and content overlap.

Bonus: Set your favicon. It doesn’t directly impact rankings, but it helps with branding and user trust when people have multiple tabs open.

Mistake #2: Not Setting Up Proper Meta Titles and Descriptions

Your meta titles and descriptions are what show up in search results. They also appear when people share your site on social or messaging apps.

If you leave them blank or vague, you’re missing out on clicks.

Mistake #2: Not Setting Up Proper Meta Titles and Descriptions

To fix this:

  • Head into the settings for each page in Webflow.
  • Add a clear, keyword-rich title that reflects the page’s content.
  • Write a compelling meta description that gets people interested enough to click.

Think of it like your site’s first impression on Google. Make it count.

Mistake #3: Getting Too Creative With Title Tags

I get it. You’re a creative. But when it comes to SEO, clarity beats cleverness every time.

Let’s say you’re running a chiropractic clinic in Annapolis. Your title tag should include something like “Chiropractor in Annapolis”, not just your business name or a vague tagline like “Helping Extraordinary Families Achieve Extraordinary Results.”

Mistake #3: Getting Too Creative With Title Tags

Here’s a better example:

True Chiropractic Care | Chiropractor in Annapolis, MD

And here’s what to avoid:

Helping Extraordinary Families Achieve Extraordinary Results

It’s heartfelt, but search engines (and users) won’t know what it’s about.

Mistake #4: Weak Internal Linking

Internal links are a simple but powerful way to boost your SEO. They help Google crawl your site and help visitors find the info they need.

What you want to avoid: pages that live in isolation, with no links to or from them. These are dead ends.

Mistake #4: Weak Internal Linking

Here’s how to improve it:

  • Link from your homepage to your key service or product pages.
  • Link back from those pages to the homepage or related services.
  • Use blog posts to support and link to core pages, like your contact or pricing page.

Think of it like creating a trail through your site. You’re guiding people where you want them to go and helping Google understand your structure at the same time.

Mistake #5: Not Using Google Search Console

Google Search Console (GSC) is your SEO cheat code. Still, a lot of Webflow users ignore it or don’t know how to use it.

Mistake #5: Not Using Google Search Console

Why it matters:

  • Submit your sitemap. Let Google know what pages exist and when they’ve changed.
  • Monitor crawl errors. GSC flags issues before they become ranking problems.
  • Track performance. See which queries bring in traffic, what your pages rank for, and where you have room to improve.
  • Inform your content strategy. If you’re ranking on page 2 for a great keyword, now you know what to optimize.

Setting it up takes five minutes and can give you months of actionable data.

Final Thoughts: Make Your Webflow Site Findable

Design matters. But if nobody can find your site, it’s just digital wallpaper.

To recap, here are the five Webflow SEO mistakes to avoid:

  • Skipping the basics in project settings
  • Forgetting meta titles and descriptions
  • Writing clever instead of clear title tags
  • Leaving internal links out of your structure
  • Ignoring the insights from Google Search Console

Fixing these is a fast way to boost visibility, attract better traffic, and give your site the foundation it needs to perform.
